Quality of life (QoL) is one of the most important outcomes in the evaluation of patients with chronic diseases. Sports participation, school attendance and quality of life are important issues for children with asthma and their parents. Increased attention is being paid to the social and emotional consequences of impaired health for the child. A prospective, observational study was conducted on parents/caregivers of the children after obtaining approval from the Institutional Ethics committee of study hospital. Questionnaire on PAQLS was obtained from McMaster University, Canada. The sample size was 61. Children less than 15 years with physician diagnosed asthma and their parents were included in the study and children with other chronic diseases were excluded from the study. Descriptive statistics like mean, percentage were calculated. SPSS version 10.0 was used for statistical analysis. A total of 61 paediatric cases were included in the study. Among the total data collected, age was taken into consideration by dividing it into 3 age groups. Most of them were under the age group of 5-10 years i.e., 44.3% followed by 37.7% under the age group of 0-5 years and 18% of them were under the age group of 10-15 years. Among them 59% were male children and 41% were female children. According to parent’s qualification, 68.9% of them were graduated. About 73.8% of parents comment that their child was bothered of asthma while doing physical activities. According to parent’s opinion 82% of children were bothered of cough and 77% were bothered of wheezing. Around 93.4% of children get tired of asthma attacks and 90.2% of parents were worried of their child asthma attacks. Study found out that 96.7% of children felt difficulty in breathing or taking a deep breath. The asthma attack seems to be more frequent at night i.e., 59% and in case of 41% of children asthma attack occurs in the morning. Quality of life of the children with asthma was affected and many of the parents were worried of their child, there is a need to provide psychological support and counselling to both children and their parents in the long-term management of asthma.
